Althrocin belongs to a class of medications known as macrolide antibiotics. The active ingredient in Althrocin is Erythromycin, which is utilized to treat various bacterial infections, as well as to prevent bacterial endocarditis and episodes of rheumatic fever.

Use Althrocin strictly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Each dose should be consumed with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. Erythromycin can be taken either on an empty stomach or with meals or milk. Do not crush, chew, break, or open any enteric-coated or delayed-release tablets. Swallow the tablet whole.

Antibiotic medications can lead to diarrhea, which might indicate a new infection. If you experience diarrhea that is watery or bloody, contact your doctor. Do not take any medicine to alleviate diarrhea without your doctor's approval.

Avoid using Althrocin if you are allergic to erythromycin, or if you are currently taking Cisapride or Pimozide. In cases of liver disease or myasthenia gravis, a dose adjustment or special evaluations may be necessary to safely use erythromycin. Althrocin is generally considered safe for unborn babies. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant while undergoing treatment. Erythromycin can transfer into breast milk and could potentially harm a nursing infant. Do not use this medication without consulting your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

Get immediate medical assistance if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction to erythromycin, such as hives, trouble breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Contact your doctor right away if you experience any serious side effects, including chest pain, irregular heartbeats, light-headedness or fainting, nausea, abdominal pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), or diarrhea that is watery or bloody. Less severe side effects of erythromycin may include mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, dizziness, headache, fatigue, vaginal itching or discharge, or mild itching or skin rash.

Many medications may interact with Althrocin. Inform your doctor about all prescription and over-the-counter medicines you are taking, including vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs from other healthcare providers. Avoid starting any new medication without your doctor’s consent.

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you recall. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medication to compensate for the missed dose.

Seek emergency medical help if you suspect an overdose of Althrocin. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or hearing loss.
